Self Improvement
First, Clear Your Head
First, I want you to clear your head of all the "gurus" who told you making money online is easy. It’s not.
Especially if you’re starting with zero experience in anything.
But here’s the truth: your first dollar is the hardest to make.
Once you earn that, 100 becomes easier. Then1,000. And so on.
My Story: From $19 to Building a Business
My journey started in June 2023, but in reality, it began way back in 2019 when I first discovered Notion.
Back then, there were no good YouTube tutorials, so I invested $19 in a course.
The problem? I didn’t have a bank card.
So, without telling my father, I used his card and left $19 in cash in his pocket. That course changed my life.
Fast forward to 2023, I saw someone selling Notion templates.
I wondered, Can you actually sell Notion templates?
The answer, as you now know, is yes.
I created an Instagram page, started sharing the basic templates I had built, and gave them away for free.
The first time someone downloaded my template, even for free, I felt like Bill Gates.
Eventually, I made my first $1. From there, I shared my templates on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram, constantly improving them.
After about seven months, I hit my first $1K online.
But here’s what you need to know: I already had skills.
I had learned coding and frontend development at 15.
I knew how to design with Figma. Notion was my strength. If you have zero skills, it might take a year or two, but you will get there.
Now, let me show you exactly how you can make your first $1K online.
Step 1: Share What You Do
You might be thinking, “But what if I don’t know anything?” That’s impossible.
Every human being has a skill. Maybe you’re studying cybersecurity at university.
Start creating content about what you’re learning.
Share your journey, tips, and insights.
Create a free course, then a paid one. Boom you’ve made your first $1,000.
The key takeaway? You don’t need to be an expert to start sharing.
You can share the process of learning and still provide value. Content creation is a superpower.
If you give value for free, people will trust you. And when you create a paid product, they’ll buy it.
Step 2: Value, Value, Value, And Give It Away for Free
When you’re starting, your motivation might be money.
But here’s what I want you to do: focus on giving value first.
Create something valuable, a product, a service, or content, and give it away for free.
Don’t make something mediocre. Make something that solves real problems.
When I first built my paid Notion template, I didn’t get many sales.
And I’m thankful for that. Why? Because my first product wasn’t great.
Only a few people bought it, and they gave me honest (and harsh) feedback.
If I had gotten a lot of sales, I would’ve had to refund people. Instead, I improved my product based on their feedback.
So, test your product. Share it with friends.
Give it away for free and ask for honest feedback, even if it hurts. Use that feedback to improve.
When you finally launch a paid product, it’ll be worth the money, and you won’t have to deal with unhappy customers.
Step 3: Learn the Skills You Need
When you’re starting, you’re a one-person team.
You’re the writer, marketer, designer, and customer service rep.
Here are the skills you need to learn:
Copywriting: Learn how to write persuasively. Use tools like ChatGPT to help you.
Content Creation: Learn how to create engaging content for social media.
Marketing: Study how to promote your product with great offers. I highly recommend Alex Hormozi’s $100M Offers book.
Customer Service: Learn how to communicate with your audience and solve their problems.
As your business grows, you can hire people who are better than you in these areas.
But for now, you’ll need to wear all the hats.
Step 4: Consistency, Discipline, and Ignore Your Emotions
Let me be honest: it’s hard. There will be days when you want to give up.
Here’s how to stay on track:
Write Tomorrow’s Tasks Tonight: Before you go to bed, write down what you need to do the next day. When you wake up, even if you’re feeling down, you’ll have a list waiting for you. It creates pressure to get things done.
Reward Yourself: After completing your tasks, reward yourself with something small, a walk, an episode of your favorite show, or 30 minutes of gaming.
Ignore Your Emotions: Motivation comes and goes. Discipline is what keeps you going.
Step 5: Stop Comparing Yourself
When you start, you’ll see people on social media bragging about making 10K,10K,20K, or even 50K in a month.
Meanwhile, you’re struggling to make 100$.
Here’s what I did: I deleted social media.
If you need to post content, use the website versions of platforms like Instagram, YouTube, and Twitter.
Scrolling on a laptop or PC is less enjoyable, so you’ll waste less time.
Stop comparing yourself to others.
You’re comparing your level 0 to someone else’s level 20. It’s not fair.
Instead, focus on your progress and be grateful for what you have.
Step 6: A Quick Summary
Choose something you’re already doing or something you’re interested in. If there’s competition, that’s a good sign, it means there’s demand.
Learn as much as you can and create a product. Test it thoroughly and give it away for free to gather feedback.
Create a premium version with more value and launch it.
Promote smartly: Give value first, then promote. Repeat.
Keep learning and improving. Don’t be afraid to scale up when the time is right.
Things to Avoid
Chasing Fast Money – If you’re looking for a quick way to make money, you’ll keep jumping from one idea to another. Stick to one thing.
Constantly Switching Ideas – You’ll be tempted to switch niches when you see others making more money in something else. Resist. Master one skill, innovate within it, and money will follow.
