Best Gamified Notion Second Brain (SB7 x Game Mode V3)

Your life does not fit inside a to-do list.

You have your work. You have what you are learning. You have whatever is going on in your head. And you have your body. Four things pulling at you at the same time, every day.

A system that only holds one of them is not holding your life.

SB7 holds all four, and that idea has a name.

The GRGE loop

Gather, Reflect, Grind, Energy. Four dashboards, four planets, one system.

Each one owns a part of your life and feeds everything back to the same place. Here is what they actually do.

Gather: what you are learning

Books, audiobooks, podcasts, courses, quotes, reading sessions. Everything going into your head lives here.

The Gather Pulse shows what you are in the middle of right now and tells you what is due for review, because most of what you read is gone in a week if nothing taps you on the shoulder about it. Capture is one tap from the dashboard, so an idea never has to wait for you to find the right page.

Daily Quote pulls one line from everything you have ever saved. Some mornings it hands you back something you wrote down two years ago and forgot about completely.

Then there is the one I did not expect people to love. When you log a podcast or an audiobook, you type the length exactly how you see it. 1:30:24. One hour, thirty minutes, twenty four seconds. You do not convert anything.

And at the end of the month the system tells you that you listened to 23 hours.

That number changes how you feel about your commute.

Top Months ranks the months where you actually learned the most, so you can see your own pattern instead of guessing at it.

Reflect: what is in your head

Journal, notes, topics, monthly reflections.

This is the dashboard people skip, and it is the one that makes the rest work. You cannot fix a week you never looked at. So you get your daily journal, your loose ends to review, quick notes, and letters you write to the version of you who shows up next year.

I want to be honest about Journal Streak, because it did something for me I did not expect.

I had tried journaling for years. I would do four days, maybe a week, then stop and not notice I had stopped. After I put the streak in, it was the first time in my life I journaled for over 30 days straight.

Then I hit 60.

And it was not discipline. It was that the number was sitting right there, and breaking it felt worse than writing three lines.

Grind: the work

Tasks, projects, milestones, goals, good habits, bad habits. This is the biggest dashboard because it is where most of your day happens.

Everything runs top down. Goals break into milestones, milestones into projects, projects into tasks. So you can look at any task on a Tuesday afternoon and trace it straight back to the goal it is serving. Most to-do lists cannot do that, which is exactly why they start feeling pointless around week three.

5-Min Start is for the task you have been avoiding for a week. You commit to five minutes and nothing more. You already know how it ends.

Advanced Recurring handles real patterns, not just daily and weekly. Every other Tuesday, the first of the month, three times a week. Your life is not on a simple schedule and your tasks should not pretend otherwise.

Habits, and the two directions

Good habits and bad habits are separate, and they pull in opposite directions on purpose.

A good habit feeds your day. A bad habit takes from it. Both get logged, both get counted, and at the end of the week you get to look at the ratio instead of telling yourself a story about it.

Streak challenges

This is where it stops being a tracker.

You set a streak challenge on a habit. Build a good one, or resist a bad one, for a number of days you choose. Then you attach what happens.

Rewards and punishments

Here is the part most templates leave out completely, and it is the whole motivation layer.

You set your own reward for finishing. A real one, something you actually want. And you set your own punishment for slipping.

Mine right now is 16 days of cold showers, and every day I miss I owe 200 push-ups. The system tracks what I owe and it does not forget.

Rewards alone have never been enough for anyone. You already know that from your own life.

The Life Area Podium

This one ranks your life areas by how much you actually fed them this month.

It is uncomfortable to look at. That is the point. You find out that the area you keep saying matters most came fourth.

And the life in weeks grid sits on this dashboard too, quietly counting.

Energy: the body

Best Gamified Notion Second Brain (SB7 x Game Mode V3)

Workouts, exercises, body log, meals, recipes, supplements, appointments.

Your watch already tracks you. It does not plan your week, run experiments on you, or remember what worked back in March. That is the gap this fills.

Workout PR tracks your personal records over time, so progress stops being a feeling and becomes a number you can point at.

And Meal Shuffle solves the stupidest problem in existence, which is standing in your kitchen at 7pm with no idea what to make.

You hit shuffle and it picks for you. And if you have set a calorie goal, it picks what fits it, so you are not choosing between eating something you like and eating something that works.

You do not have to open four dashboards

Best Gamified Notion Second Brain (SB7 x Game Mode V3)

Here is the part that makes all of it usable.

Almost everything above lives on the main dashboard too. Your Pulses, your due tasks, your current reads, your streaks, your habits, all on one screen with tabs. You open one page in the morning and your whole life is in front of you.

The Battle Log scores your day. Tasks done, habits kept, bad habits avoided, workouts finished.

Life Estimation shows your life in years with a word for the day. Analytics and the Monthly report card handle the looking back, so you do not have to remember to do it.

That is SB7. Calm, quiet, and enough on its own.

If you want to see every page of it in detail, the full SB7 walkthrough is here.

Then you click one button

And the whole thing becomes a real RPG. Not a progress bar with a sword on it. Something you would load on Steam, except the character is you and the quests are your actual life.

I quit video games six years ago and I do not miss them. But I knew exactly why they held me for so long, and this is four years of aiming that same pull at things that matter.

First, you build your game

Config comes before anything else.

You pick one of seven themes and that is the world you live in from now on. You name your character. You name your companion. Then you choose your difficulty.

Difficulty is not cosmetic. It decides what a level costs you for the rest of the game. Hard is the sweet spot, and the system warns you that hard mode will humble you before it lets you confirm it.

Your character

Your character sits at the center and all four dashboards feed it. Finish a task, keep a habit, log a workout, close a book, and XP and coins flow straight up to it.

You also get 100 energy a day, and real actions drain it. A heavy workout takes a lot. Journaling takes some, because thinking is work. Bad habits drain it faster than anything.

When you are running low you go to the Fuel Station and buy more with coins.

But you can only buy while you still have some left. Hit zero and the day is simply over for you. The button stops working and a countdown tells you how long until the reset, and the reset itself costs you 300 coins.

Your companion

You do not grind alone.

Mine is a leopard called Leo. You can pick a different one, or make your own if none of them feel like yours.

And the companion is not decoration. Good habits raise its vitality. Bad ones drain it. Streak wins give it Power, and as its Power builds it ages and gets stronger, and the stronger it gets the bigger the boost it adds to your levels.

Let its vitality drop far enough and it dies. A dead companion boosts you by nothing, and bringing it back costs 100 comets, which is weeks of showing up every day.

So your scrolling habit can kill something. That was on purpose.

Challenges, skills and ranks

Challenges are the engine of the whole thing.

They pay you the tokens that raise your three skills, Spirit, Mind and Body, and each skill is fed by a different part of your life. Books and journaling grow Mind. Tasks and projects grow Spirit. Training grows Body.

Your skill levels unlock ranks, and every rank you climb multiplies your XP.

This is why the system survives month three. There are challenges in there you cannot reach by doing more tasks, no matter how many you finish. You get to them by stacking ranks, which means the long game is an actual game instead of the same loop forever.

Logging in every day

Comets are the rarest thing in the system and they come from one place. You open the Battle Log and claim your day.

Miss it and it is gone. You can scroll back, see yesterday sitting there marked as missed, and do absolutely nothing about it.

That is what gets me into the system every morning. And once I am in, I plan my day, because I am already there.

The Exchange, and buying your rewards

Keys come from challenges, and you trade them in the Exchange for XP, coins or comets. So a challenge you finished in January can still be paying you in March, depending on what you need at the time.

Coins are what buy your rewards, and you set those yourself.

I promised myself a MacBook Pro M5 Pro if I finished building SB7. It took me a year. And when the project was finally done, the reward still sat there locked until I had earned the coins for it.

The reward is real. So is the price.

And now deep work counts too

Tarkiz is my new gamified deep work template, and it plugs straight into Game Mode.

Your focus sessions now pay your character directly. Your water stages boost your XP, your creatures add power to your companion, and your streak wins send comets into SB7.

So the two hours you spend locked in on something hard finally show up on your character instead of disappearing.

It comes built in.

And if you want the full tour of Game Mode V3 before you decide, it is all here.
