The Worst Second Brain

Two years ago, I began my journey of building Notion templates for others.

Back then, I created my first Second Brain template, Second Brain v1.

It looked decent in images, but in reality, it was terrible.

The functionality was poor, and it lacked the structure needed to truly help people. I sold my first copy for just $9, and honestly, I’m grateful I didn’t get many sales.

It wasn’t something I was proud of, but it was the beginning of something bigger.

The 2nd Version

After two months, I decided to improve the template.

Notion had released new updates, and I had learned a lot from my mistakes.

I fixed issues, added features, and released Second Brain V2.

But I made a crucial mistake, I overcomplicated it.

Back then, I didn’t provide any video tutorials or walkthroughs, so people struggled to use it properly and It was just a long page with databases, with no sub-pages for better organization.

If someone accidentally deleted an important database, they had to start from scratch and duplicate the template again.

This version was better than the first but still had many issues.

Sales were slightly better, but customers kept telling me it needed to be simpler and more feature-packed. I took their feedback seriously.

At this point, I increased the price to $22, but I knew I had a long way to go.

Between Versions 2 and 5: The Grind

For the next seven months, I didn’t release any new versions.

Instead, I spent every day improving the template. I learned more about Notion, gathered feedback from customers, and added features that truly helped people organize their lives.

The feedback got better, and the template became less complicated and more effective.

But it still had issues, filters didn’t work properly, some properties were unclear, and the overall experience wasn’t seamless.

I kept working on it, determined to create something extraordinary.

Then, in March 2024, I released Second Brain 5.0.

My Favorite Version: Second Brain 5.0

This version was special to me. It felt like my second baby.

80% of the structure I built in this version is still present in the latest release.

I made huge improvements, better video tutorials, refined properties, fewer overwhelming views, and a much cleaner system.

Customers loved it.

The feedback was incredible. But even then, I kept iterating. I released 5.2, then 5.4, and eventually 5.9. Each update made it even better.

By this point, people who had bought version 1.0 for just $9 were still getting access to this premium, highly improved version, now worth $59.
